Montane Renews Sponsorship Deal with BMC ‘Women in Adventure’ Film Competition

Written by

Montane, the British outdoor clothing specialist, has renewed it’s partnership with the BMC ‘Women in Adventure’ Film competition for 2022, in a move that extends the relationship to a third year.

The competition encourages female participants to submit a film of up to 10 minutes in length, starring a woman as the main protagonist in the outdoors. The aim of the competition is to inspire more women to head outdoors, and to increase the number of women involved in adventure on the big screen.

This year sees the competition return for its eighth consecutive run. All entries will be shown on BMC’s YouTube channel, named BMC TV, and some will be shown at SHAFF (Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Film) in July. The deadline for video entries is on Monday 17th January 2022.

Climber, creative adventurer, Montane ambassador and story-orientated filmmaker, Jessie Leong, was the recipient of the ‘Judges Special Mention award’ in 2019, with the submission of her film ‘Banana Skin: Climbing in Hong Kong’.

Jessie Leong commented on the competition, “Entering the Montane Women in Adventure Filmmaking competition was a great opportunity for me to get my work seen in front of a judging panel, but also a huge online audience.  Not only did I get thousands of views on it, but it continues to open multiple conversations with friends, wider circles and even strangers who've watched the film and shared their experiences. My advice to the next filmmaker who wants to make a film that celebrates women in adventure is ‘you are invited’.”

Montane’s Global Marketing Manager, Matthew Hickman, commented: “It gives us great pride to continue our brand sponsorship of what is an enormously inspiring and important competition. It is a competition that promotes the possibilities of the outdoors and emboldens women to take that first step into a new world. At Montane we are synonymous with stepping into the unknown to find what you are truly capable of, and that is exactly what this competition is about.”

The competition offers five prizes, with cash rewards ranging from £300 to £600, with the winners being decided by a panel of four highly respected women and film makers in the industry. The Women in Adventure concept and competition was started by Sheffield Adventure Film Festival.
