Karrimor women's long-sleeved base layer Reviewed

Written by Fiona Outdoors

When I am rating an item of outdoor clothing it's performance, price and looks that are the three most important factors for me. I weigh each up against the others. Here's my reveiw of the Karrimor women's long-sleeved t-shirt (they also do a guy's version).

What I like about the Karrimor women's long-sleeved baselayer

The price is very good. It RRPs at £19.99 but sells for £9.99. See here The reason this baselayer is cheaper than, say, Merino baselayers, is that polyester is much cheaper to source and buy. But, still, £9.99 is an excellent price for a branded long-sleeved baselayer. The baselayer looks pretty good, too. It fits nicely and has a femine-cut. The sleeves are just long enough for my Mr Tickle-like arms. I'm not sure about the "active" fit but certianly I could run, walk and jump without hassle in this baselayer!

The purple is a fantastic colour and many people have commented on how attractive the top is.

I also like the soft-feel of the baselayer. I can wear this one against my skin without any itching. The seams are easy on my bare skin, too.

The fabric is fairly quick to dry out after sweaty exercise but not as speedy as a lighterweight polyester baselayer. This baselayer is slightler heavier and thicker and therefore warmer to wear as a baselayer but this means it takes longer to dry out if it gets wet.

It washes well, too. I know all about the washing of this top because ... (read my not so keen point below!)

What I am not so keen on:

As I have said before, the main difference between Merino wool baselayers and polyester baselayers is whiff. A Merino wool baselayer can be worn for days at a time, through all kinds of sweaty activites, and still not smell. Meanwhile, a polyester baselayer, like this Karrimor one smells of sweat after just one wear. So I had to wash this baselayer after every use. The main porblem area was under the armpits!

Summary review of the Karrimor long-sleeved tech baselayer for ladies

At £9.99 the price is good and if you are looking for a baselayer that is cheap to buy, does a good job of keeping you warm and looks lovely but needs to be washed after every use, this is a great choice.
